Hastings, MN – After completing a successful two day unfair labor practice strike, more than 230 nursing assistants, physical therapy aides, x-ray aides, housekeepers, dietary workers, medical transcriptionists, operating room aides, patient care technicians. and other caregivers at Regina Medical Center are planning their next steps in their fight for justice for all working families.
"Our two day strike may be over, but our fight for retirement security and affordable healthcare for all working families continues," said Karen Martineau, a trained medication administrator at Regina Medical Center. " We’ve been amazed by the support throughout the community and from elected officials and know that they’ll be with us as we continue to stand up for the American Dream."
Following successful rallies on Monday, striking workers were joined on Tuesday by Franni Franken, former Senator Mark Dayton, Congresswoman Betty McCollum, and State Representative Paul Thissen.
"The caregivers I joined on the picket line work hard every day caring for our loved ones. Their work deserves to be respected and compensated with living wages, affordable healthcare and the commitment of retirement security," said Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D).
"In times like these, with so much insecurity, employers and employees need to reach an agreement that provides meaningful protection for health care and pensions for hard-working Minnesotans," said State Representative Paul Thissen (DFL-Richfield), Chairman of the House Health and Human Services Committee.
Workers will return to work unconditionally at 6am on Wednesday, November 26th.
